Minister Shared on Smart Nation at CXO Breakfast Talk on 12 February 2015

SiTF has successfully organised a CXO Breakfast Talk with Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for The Environment and Water Resources, also the Minister-in-Charge of Smart Nation Programme Office shared with ICM (Infocomm Media) industry on Smart Nation - impact to Businesses on 12 February 2015 at Hotel Fort Canning. Near 140 senior executives joined the talk. Minister shared why Singapore is moving towards Smart Nation.

The morning started off with CXO Breakfast Talk Organising Chairman and also SiTF 1st Vice Chairman, Mr Andrew Chow’s welcome speech. In his speech, Mr Chow had announced the formation of a pro-tem committee on Smart Nation in SiTF. The intention of this is to work with the industry on how we can engage on the Smart Nation holistically. The pro-tem committee will be helmed by SiTF Co-opted Councillor, Natasha Kwan, Managing Director for South Asia, T-Systems & Chairman, Singapore T-Systems Management Board.


During Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan’s speech, he shared cusp of a transformational change. The change is brought about by a convergence of three trends – the falling cost of hardware, hyper-connectivity becoming the norm and the pervasiveness of personalization and customisation. These trends mean that we now have access to new tools and solutions that can help make life significantly better for all our citizens. The launch of Smart Nation Programme served as a platform for companies, government agencies and our community to come together to do our best and apply our minds, break new ground and find new solutions to raise our standard of living. It is also an open invitation to the world, to partner us, to find solutions to challenges that are both local and global at the same time.
